We’ve been raising Navajo-Churro sheep for over 20 years. Navajo-Churros are America’s first breed of domestic sheep, and we have a flock of forty breeding ewes just south of Bozeman. We practice rotational grazing across seven fields to help regenerate the soils and maintain the land for future generations.
Unlike most breeds of sheep, Navajo-Churro are narrow-bodied and fine-boned, with fat retained inside the body cavities leading to a sweeter, milder, and leaner meat that is the only lamb meat recognized by the Slow Food Ark of Heritage Foods. Having low lanolin levels in their fleece also translates into a sweeter flavor compared to modern breeds. You won’t think gamey lamb after you’ve tried these!
We especially enjoy them for their many fleece colors and patterns, unique horns with some animals having four or more, and of course their gourmet meat.
Limited numbers of whole processed lambs and breeding stock available each year.
